NFC tag writing guide
Your PoLi books arrive set to open your PoLi shelf page. Follow these steps to point any book at a link of your own. Writing a new link replaces the old one.
Video walkthrough coming soon
The written steps below cover everything in the meantime.
Step by step
- 1
Get a free NFC writing app
Install NFC Tools from the App Store or Google Play. Any app that can write a URL record works.
- 2
Choose what the book should open
Copy the link you want: a reading list, a playlist, a book review, or a photo album. Shorter links write faster.
- 3
Add the link as a record
In NFC Tools, tap Write, then Add a record, then URL / URI. Paste your link and tap OK.
- 4
Write it to the book
Tap Write. Hold the top of your iPhone, or the middle of the back of your Android phone, flat against the book's cover until the app confirms.
- 5
Test the tap
Close the app, unlock your phone and tap the book again. Your link should pop up as a notification or open right away.
- 6
Print and wrap the cover label
Print the 2 × 1 in label, trim it, and wrap it from the back cover, around the spine, to the front.
Which phones work
iPhone XS and newer read tags with no app. Most Android phones work once NFC is turned on in Settings.
If it won't read
Take off a thick or magnetic phone case, move the phone slowly over the cover, and keep the books off metal shelves.
Locking is permanent
NFC Tools can lock a tag so no one can change it. A locked tag can never be rewritten, so only lock it once you're sure.
